Did Google Fix the Reduced Crawling Issue Impacting Some Websites?

Google Fix the Reduced Crawling Issue

On August 28, 2025, Google confirmed that it has resolved an issue with its crawlers that led to “reduced or fluctuating crawling” for some websites. The problem, which began around August 8, 2025, caused noticeable drops in crawl rates reported in Google Search Console. While the exact percentage of affected sites remains unclear, Google reassured users that crawling activity should return to normal in the near future.

SEO professionals and site owners first raised concerns after noticing significant dips in crawl requests starting mid-August. Several discussions surfaced in the Search Central Forum, with many reporting crawl requests dropping close to zero around August 20. Although the bug did not impact rankings or website traffic directly, the reduced crawl activity raised questions about the indexing of new and updated content.

John Mueller from Google addressed the issue publicly, confirming it was a technical glitch on Google’s side. He explained that the crawling slowdown was temporary and would “catch back up automatically.” This statement provided much-needed clarity for site owners worried about longer-term effects on their visibility.

For those still monitoring the situation, the crawl rate report in Google Search Console (found under Settings) is the best place to track whether normal crawling activity has resumed. While many sites may not have noticed any changes at all, those who did experience drops should see improvements in the coming days.
