Google is continuing its efforts to streamline Search by removing several lesser-used features and structured data types in the coming months. According to Google, these changes are part of an ongoing initiative to simplify the user experience and improve page speed.
The company noted that the affected features “aren’t being used very often and aren’t adding significant value to users.”
What’s Changing
Search Advocate John Mueller announced that Google is “beginning to phase these lesser-used features out” and that the update “will simplify the page and improve the speed of search results.”
While Google hasn’t disclosed the full list of features being removed, some structured data types and Search Console elements will no longer be supported starting January 2026.
Among the changes already confirmed:
- Practice problems structured data will be deprecated.
- Dataset structured data will remain available only for Dataset Search, not for standard Google Search.
- Book actions structured data will stay active, as some features still use it.
- The “Today’s Doodle” box, nutrition facts, nearby offers, local bikeshare station status, TV season selector, and local event boxes will be removed.
Google emphasized that this list is not exhaustive — other minor elements and experimental features may also be affected.
Why It Matters for Website Owners
If your site uses structured data for any of these deprecated features, you may need to remove or update unsupported code. The removal of these elements could slightly affect click-through rates (CTR) and visibility in Search results.
Although Google says the overall impact should be minimal, it’s still crucial for webmasters and SEO professionals to monitor their structured data reports in Search Console and adjust accordingly.
As Google continues refining Search, expect further updates aimed at improving efficiency, clarity, and speed — even if that means saying goodbye to certain visual or informational elements.
