Google Ends FAQ Rich Results: What It Means for SEO and Website Owners
- May 11, 2026
Google has officially announced that it will no longer support FAQ rich results in Google Search. As of May 7, 2026, FAQ snippets will stop appearing in search results, and related reporting features inside Google Search Console will also be phased out over the coming months.
For businesses, marketers, and SEO professionals, this marks another major shift in how structured data impacts search visibility.
What Are FAQ Rich Results?
FAQ rich results are enhanced search listings that display commonly asked questions and answers directly beneath a webpage in Google Search. These results were powered by FAQ structured data markup added to website pages.
For years, FAQ schema helped websites:
- Increase search visibility
- Improve click-through rates
- Occupy more space in search results
- Provide users with quick answers
- Enhance SEO performance for informational content
Industries such as healthcare, legal services, home improvement, digital marketing, moving companies, and eCommerce widely adopted FAQ schema to improve organic reach.
Google’s Official Announcement
Google confirmed that FAQ rich results are no longer appearing in search results. In addition, several related tools and reporting systems are also being removed.
According to Google:
- FAQ rich results have already stopped displaying in search
- The FAQ search appearance report in Google Search Console will be removed in June 2026
- Support for FAQ rich results in the Rich Results Test tool will also end in June 2026
- Search Console API support for FAQ reports will be discontinued in August 2026
This means website owners should no longer expect SEO benefits from FAQ schema specifically for Google Search appearance.
Why Google Removed FAQ Rich Results
Google has not provided an extensive explanation, but industry experts believe the decision is part of Google’s broader effort to simplify search results and reduce low-value SERP clutter.
Over time, FAQ rich snippets became heavily overused across websites. Many pages added large FAQ sections primarily for SEO advantages rather than genuine user value. This led to repetitive and sometimes low-quality search experiences.
Google has gradually reduced visibility for certain structured data features over the past few years, especially when they were being excessively optimized for rankings instead of usability.
